High-level flow focuses on Goals (What you want to do) and references the Tasks (How you do it).

“What would it look like?”

I have to agree with ‘boxes and arrows’ which focus on Workflow – and probably also identifies Actors.

Consider the purpose:

The high-level flow provides a simple, clear (and accurate) reflection of the business

  • for sign-off by management stakeholders

It also provides practical “domain-related” working context

  • for the technical implementation team

You can also provide some “drilldown’ screenshot layouts to illustrate some of the mission-critical boxes because …

  1. Everybody loves pictures and
  2. “But – What will it look like?” is always the first question asked

For the most part – “high level flow” is UX, screenshots are UI.
