Hi. I’m John Vaughan. I’ve worked in the UX / UI / Usability / Media arena for a bunch of years.
I’ve collected some of my writings and pictures into several different websites. At some point, I hope to turn them into something that All Fits Together.
In the meantime:
- Portfolio (Personal, Skills, Resume)
- the Craft (Understanding UX, Roles, Tasks, Techniques)
- Ideas (Design Thinking, the SocialNet, Metaphors)
- The Archive (Graduate Papers, Conferences, Solutions, Collateral)
This site is about the Usability Craft.
This offers a brief definition of usability as a practice, as well as collection of observations about roles, tasks, techniques and process:
What is it? Usability – sometimes labeled as “UX” – has emerged on the interactive scene, and now dominates it. It deserves to be understood. Let’s take a look:
- What is UxP?
- Usability as a Practice
- The Vision Thing
- How It All Fits Together
- and more …
Who does it? I’ve grouped the usability-related roles by 4 ‘standard’ stages, which conform roughly to SDLC (Systems Development LifeCycle): Discover/Define, Design, Develop, Deploy
What do we do? These are some of ‘the usual suspects’ among usability Deliverables. They, too, tend to reflect of those SDLC groupings. I’ve added another aspect which I feel is particularly important: Support.
Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example.
How do we make it work? Here are a few tips, tricks & stories.
- and more …
Why does it all come together? Somehow, the pieces have to fit.
This site is very much a work-in-progress, both in terms of the content that’s posted here and in terms of the structure and interrelationship of the materials and their sites. Please bear with me…
It’s all about Convergence and Cross-Pollination
